Helping People with Warm Spaces

Over the last few weeks, I have had countless conversations with people across Sutton, all of whom are concerned about the rising cost of living and energy prices. I have spoken recently to families who are having to make difficult decisions about whether to put the heating on or worrying about how to afford school uniforms and decent meals.

With this in mind, Sutton Council has stepped in to create Warm Spaces in its libraries. You are welcome to spend as long as you want to in our libraries during opening hours. 

A visit to one of our Warm Spaces offers a warm welcome, free wifi and a number of computers which are available to anyone to use, as well as plenty of books to choose from. There is no need to book, just turn up and make use of what’s on offer.

Our wonderful Warm Spaces volunteers, who I spent some time with earlier this week, are at four of our libraries from 10am - 4pm on weekdays - Sutton Central, Phoenix Centre, Sutton Life Centre and the Circle Library. They are able to point those making use of the Warm Spaces in the right direction for any help and guidance they may need and are great at listening as well as having a chat.
